Young Leaders at 8th Alton

In the UK today there are over 10,000 Young Leaders commited to helping younger members of the Scouting movement.

Young Leaders are young people aged between 14 and 18 who want to complete a service element as part of a Scouting, Guiding or Duke of Edinburgh's award.

The Young Leaders Scheme helps young people to develop and grow as individuals. It allows them to make a valuable contribution to their community and to give service to others. In doings so they develop better communication and organisational skills, as well as leadership qualities.

Young Leaders do not have to be Explorer Scouts but they do need to take part in some basic training to ensure that they are ready for the role they are about to take on. All Young Leaders have to be registered with a local Explorer Scout Young Leaders' Unit.

Awards For Young Leaders

For Explorer Scouts, the Young Leaders Scheme also give access to a range of awards, such as mission badges and ultimately the Young Leaders belt buckle.

A Young Leader is automatically working towards these top awards:

  • Duke of Edinburgh
